Basic Introduction
One UI 3.0, which debuted with the Android 11 update, introduced a variety of changes to Samsung’s Android user interface that powers all modern Galaxy phones and tablets.
The launch of the Galaxy S21 series of smartphones debuted the One UI 3.1, which makes minor improvements and adds a number of new features to further enhance the user experience.
One UI 3.1 design and enhancements
Being a minor update to One UI, version 3.1 doesn’t make any design changes. However, Samsung has simplified and decluttered some menu, particularly the quick toggles area in the notification shade.
One UI 3.1 features
One UI 3.1 introduces a number of new features. The biggest highlight is the addition of Google Discover on the home screen. One UI 3.1 lets users select between Google Discover on the left-most home screen and Samsung Free/Samsung Daily, so they can decide where they get their daily news fix. (Exclusive to S21 Series as of now).
Samsung has introduced video call effects. These effects let you blur the background in video calls made with apps such as Zoom, Google Duo, Microsoft Teams, and WebEx, so you can hide your unkept room or avoid anyone else in your house coming into the frame. A custom image can be set as well if blurring out the background isn’t enough.
One UI 3.1 allows the removal of location data from photos and videos before they are shared with others, and the blue light filter feature has been renamed to Eye Comfort Shield and automatically limits blue light exposure based on the time of day.
One UI 3.1 camera features
Every new Galaxy flagship brings with its camera features that ultimately become available on existing and future Galaxy smartphones, and One UI 3.1 is filled with camera enhancements.
- Object eraser - A new photo editing tool by Samsung allows you to cut out any unwanted parts of your pictures, without having to edit pictures manually. It will make mobile photography much easier and better.
- Director’s View - A new shooting mode introduced in the latest UI update in which users can get a real-time view of the feed from all rear cameras and the front camera on a phone at the same time.
- New Bokeh effects – Many Samsung users love to click incredible pictures and explore the mobile photography. So, now users have some new bokeh effects for more studio-like portrait shots
- A new Single Take mode – This industry-leading feature allows users to capture a variety of pictures and video clips with a single tap.
- Zoom lock - If you have a Samsung Galaxy smartphone phone with high-end zooming capabilities (such as S20 Ultra, S21 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra), you can now use Zoom Lock to avoid blurry pictures even during high magnification levels. It will lock the frame and you wouldn’t need any tripod support.
- An updated Night mode or Dark mode
- Touch autofocus and autoexposure controller
Other interesting features
- Multi-mic recording - Now, users can record audio using both their UI 3.1 supported phone and a connected Bluetooth device at the same time. This will help content creators, directors, influencers, vloggers and more to get better audio and video quality.
- Eye comfort shield – Adjust the blue light emitted from your phone to protect your eyes from eye strain issues. You can adjust the blue light based on the time of day from your Quick Settings panel.
- Private Share - This feature lets you share encrypted files and set permission and expiration dates for the data, and also allows you to grant read-only access.
